she began her career in journalism as the head of the political department for the daily newspaper 'Morning Newspaper'. During this time she wrote a contemporary history of Georgian and former Soviet Union and was part of team of journalists accompanying Shevardnadze, President of Georgia on his international visits which included various important summit meetings. Having attended a political seminar run by the BBC in Warsaw on journalism in conflict situations and worked at Radio Bremmen,

she has gained a considerable amount of international experience in journalism. Languages spoken: Georgian, Russian, English and German. With 50% ownership of the magazine, Essma started up Pirvelli Journali Ltd in May 2001.
